Stuck In Colder Weather

To steal a quote from the new Zac Brown hit we are currently "stuck in colder weather, maybe tomorrow will be better" but I kind of doubt it.  Unfortunately this week looks like it's going to be miserably cold, and to make it even better I think I'm getting sick. Therefore, I have dedicated today's post to warm comfy clothing that is worthy of a freezing cold sick day.

 As those close to me know, lately I have been on a cupcake kick. While this would be normal for most people, I don't like cake, never have. I attribute my new love for cupcakes to our local bakery which has amazing almond raspberry cupcakes.  In the spirit of new years resolutions I have had to limit myself to only buying one cupcake every Friday, hence the title Cupcake Friday (which has replaced Marshmallow Milkshake Monday until the weather warms up).  All of this thinking about cupcakes is motivating me to make some cupcakes of my own, here are some cute accessories to aide in the baking process.

After Much Ado

Sorry for the week long hiatus! I spent last week traveling to Minnesota. Over the course of my visit I was fortunate to visit the Mall of America for the first time ever!! So throughout the week I will be sharing some of my great finds! Today's post features my brand new leopard flats.

I also ran into my leopard wedge booties while I was at Forever 21, but decided that I would get more use out of the flats. Normally this isn't a buying technique that I would endorse (function over fun) but unfortunately my closet is running out of shoe space so I'm going to have to wait to buy more "twice a year" heels until I get a bigger closet!!

Spicy Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup

The weather lately has been unacceptably cold, meaning that dinners and lunches have to be super hot. Tonight my mom managed to improve upon the already perfect Grilled cheese and tomato soup combination.  For the soup she used Campbell's Low Sodium Tomato Soup, and then added a chopped up Roma tomato while the soup cooked.

Campbell's makes another variety of Tomato Soup that already contains pieces of tomato, but I much prefer having fresh tomato rather than canned. 

For the grilled cheese she used a bakery fresh, thick Italian country wheat and added a slice of Chipotle Cheddar cheese, and a slice of tomato.  The result was a great combination of comfort and spice. 

This is a perfect meal to pack in your thermos for work.  If you can't find your thermos from grade school (mine was the Lion King) here are some fun replacements!

Blue Jean Blues

For some reason I currently hate all of my jeans, I think that I might have grown a little bit taller because my favorite skinny jeans are now too short! So I am ready for a jean overhaul.  I'm thinking I need a dark skinny jean, a light skinny jean, a dark boot cut, and a medium wash flare.  If  I can find them cheap enough I'd like to get two pairs of each and get one tailored to wear with flats and the other tailored for heels. Here are some pairs I'm considering about getting.

Men's sunglasses are always a great option, they are a great alternative to the over sized Jackie O style. Watches (especially metal watches) work great on both guys and girls. If you chose to wear the watch make sure you pair it with a more feminine outfit to avoid looking too manly. Finally the briefcase, not exactly high fashion but it can take a normal work outfit from everyday drab to CEO Chic.

Thank Goodness for Target!

I got the perfect brown purse for Christmas (picture to come later), but that being said I am on the hunt for a good black work purse. The perfect purse needs to be classy and unique, normally Target purses don't fit that mold,but the Mulberry for Target line has some great black bags. Here are some of my affordabley awesome favorites.

I'm hoping that there will still be some when I go to Target this week.  And keep on the look out for an up coming post featuring my brand new Banana Republic Christmas purse. Happy Tuesday

New Year, New Layout!

Don't worry the new layout is not permanent! I'm experimenting with new layouts until I find one that I really like and that allows the text to show up clearly. But I digress, Happy New Year!! I'm not a resolution maker, but it seems to be the unspoken blog rule that I have to post some sort of resolution today, so I decided to take a page out of Charlie Brown's book and post his:

"Keep the ball low, don't leave your crayons in the sun, use dental floss every day, don't spill the shoe polish, always knock before entering, don't let the ants get in the sugar, never volunteer to be a program chairman, always get your first serve in, and feed your dog whenever he's hungry."

According to Charlie if you do these you'll have a happy life and a fat dog.  The one thing that I am determined to do this year is to write more letters, so I'm going to invest in some personalized note cards.  Here is one of the options: (obviously personalized, for those of us who's name is not Mallory!)
